Spanish advertisers’ high hopes for DTT

The appeal of Spanish thematic channels to attract audiences on DTT has increased the expectations of networks such as Grupo Planeta's Antena 3 and Mediaset's Telecinco to tap a seam of advertising.

The country’s media analysts are recommending advertisers to pay attention to the two audiovisual groups and saying that they have good prospects with expected growth of around 12%.

 

One of the key factors for these recommendations is the improvement of the Spanish TV advertising market which by the end of January 2011 showed a year on year growth of 5%, compared to a 4.5% comparable growth at the same period a year earlier.

With their thematic channels, either Antena 3 or Telecinco could cover 76% of the advertising market. However Antena 3 is regarded as having better perspectives than Telecinco according to the analysts. Bloomberg reports suggest that Grupo Planeta's private channel has a potential growth of 12.4% while Telecinco has a potential growth of 9.2% on the stock exchange.
