Bytemobile and IBM have embarked upon a major project to deliver web and video traffic optimisation.
Bytemobile’s Smart Capacity platform is designed to give operators more control of existing network resources to manage escalating subscriber demand for capacity due to video and other bandwidth-intensive content and applications. The company claims approximately 13 petabytes (PB) of data traffic flow through its 30+ mobile customers’ networks daily, resenting the data volume equivalent of 175 years of HD-TV video.
The Smart Capacity management and analytics services are being deployed with IBM’s enterprise class BladeCenter network servers to improve management of existing network capacity and increasing consumer demand for multimedia content. The video optimisation capabilities are claimed to reduce mobile data traffic by 40-50%. The intended result is freed up capacity with an improved user experience and faster access to multimedia content.
“Bytemobile’s platform plays a critical role in helping [operators] create smarter networks with greater intelligence to manage data traffic and significantly reduce data volumes,” said Rick Qualman, vice president of strategy and business development, IBM Telecommunications Industry.
