Mobile video spike to strain even LTE

Just as the mobile video industry was licking its lips in anticipation of launching a flurry media rich and high value content supported by high-bandwidth  LTE networks, a new study by Bytemobile is suggesting that quality of experience problems caused by strains on network capacity will continue.

The provider of network capacity solutions for mobile network operators expects video to account for more than 60% of total mobile network traffic in 2011, consolidating on an excellent 2010 when   video became the dominant form of mobile data traffic, comprising over 40%  of the total volume in wireless networks worldwide.

With the rise of full-length and studio-quality videos and live streaming of multimedia content on mobile devices, Bytemobile anticipates mobile data traffic to spike to an all-time high in 2011.

Driving the data explosion will be the continued adoption of next-generation smartphones which will see use in the consumption of bandwidth-intensive content, further eating available network capacity even as operators roll out LTE.
