Brezhoweb, first French Breton web TV channel

Channel Brezhoweb has launched, the first French web TV channel to operate fully in the Breton language.

Acknowledged by regulatory body CSA, it offers live programming every day from 18 : 00 to 22 :30pm, and also distributes them on an on-demand basis. Its schedule comprises 60 hours a year of content ranging from youth programmes, and music shows to talk-shows and sitcoms.

Brezhoweb aims to address 20,000 people talking Breton in France, and mostly to the youngest who learn this language at school. This channel, whose budget amounts €260,000 is funded by Western France Brittany region along with the three local districts, Morbihan, Finistère and Côtes d’Armor. It will also draw limited revenues from advertising.

Brezhoweb is the extension of a website created in 2006 by journalist Lionel Buannic, formerly working for TV Breizh (TF1 Group). The activity of the website was then uniquely based on VOD.
