Sky Deutschland will enter the world of 3D with live coverage of the Ryder Cup showing with the pay-TV broadcaster showing the conclusive third day of the golf tournament in the new technology.
All Sky HD subscribers in Germany and Austria receiving the pay-TV offer via satellite or Kabel BW’s cable network will be able to watch the 3D footage for no additional charge.
“The Ryder Cup is a sports event of global importance and therefore perfectly suited as the kick-off event for our new 3D event channel,” said Carsten Schmidt, chief officer sports, advertising sales & internet. “The most important golf event of the year will be the starting point for a number of exclusive sports transmissions in 3D.”
In addition sports, Sky wants to screen movies, documentaries and music concerts in 3D from October. In addition to the Sky HD receiver, which is already 3D-compliant, viewers will need a 3D TV set and 3D glasses for reception. The 3D service is free for all Sky HD subscribers until the end of December.
