China launched a new satellite, SinoSat-6, on Sunday. The new bird will increase radio and television capacity over the country.
SinoSat-6 will beam from 126.4 degrees East and substitute for SinoSat-3 which launched in June 2007 but failed to deploy key equipment. The new satellite has a lifespan of 15 years.
There are 24 C-band, 8 Ku-band and 1 S-band transponders on board.
Launched from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre in Sichuan Province, SinoSat-6 was carried on the Long March 3B rocket. The satellite was built by the China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp.
Operated by China Satellite Communications Corp, the satellite will improve services over remote and mountainous areas of the country.
