Developments in the consumer electronics market have been positive worldwide, according to a report for the IFA consumer electronics show which has started in Berlin.Market research predicts the biggest markets to register around 4% growth, with this year´s global sales forecast to reach approximately €582 billion, an increase of 5%.
Prospects for the German market are equally good, the IFA report says. This means an industry anticipating growth that will propel market sales towards €25 billion for the first time.
Despite the difficult economic situation, the home appliances industry has survived the recession in better shape that other sectors. For example last year, worldwide sales of large and small appliances at net industry prices reached €100 billion, a 1% drop over 2008. Since Autumm 2009, the signs have increasingly been pointing towards recovery, and in many markets the downward trend has been halted. This positive trend has continued throughout 2010. The industry expects global demand to increase.
IFA, the largest CE show of its kind in Europe, has a wide range of innovative products on show this year. 3DTV is slated to be the “star” of the show, much as HDTV was four years ago. Key themes driving the market on display at the show´s 50th anniversary this year include HDTV, 3D TV, the networked home, TV/Internet convergence and mobile media.
