French group Canal+ has posted a robust 2010 first-half performance with revenues up 3.1% to €2.3 billion and EBITA increasing 3 % to € 486 million.
Over the last 12 months, Canal+ France has been enlarging its subscriber base of 356, 000 customers in metropolitan France, overseas territories and Africa,. In metropolitan France, the churn rate fell from 13 to 11 % and the group says that its share of analogue subs is now close to 100 000.
Additional services such as HD, DVR and channel Foot+, as well as a new version of the highly-stylised Le Cube set-top box, were key revenue drivers for the group on the first half of 2010.
In addition to presenting the results, CEO Bertrand Méheut confirmed talks were still going on with Orange to bring out a new partnership for movie channels Orange cinéma series and TPS Star. No formal deal had been signed as yet.
The bullish results of the French pay-TV company were consistent with those posted by Mother Company Vivendi for whom half-yearly revenues were up 6.1% to €14 billion over the period with adjusted net profit up 4 % to €1.5 billion.
