Whilst announcing its anniversary schedules, the channel has announced a deal with social platform YouTube whereby geo-localised catch-up TV contents issued from dedicated platform Arte+7 will be webcast on YouTube both in France and in Germany.
As of November, Arte will supply YouTube users with significant volumes of programming available each week in catch-up TV both in French and German. The offer will also be extended to iPhone and iPad dedicated apps.
Eager to attract younger viewers, Arte thus becomes the first so called 'pubcaster' to launch a catch-up TV channel in both countries. It will use YouTube Content ID solution to protect its contents.
Arte's digital development has become necessary in order to attract new viewers. In France, Arte France is also at a turning point, just at a time when current President Jérôme Clément is about to end his mandate in March 2011.
Like other historical free channels, Arte is challenged by DTT channels and now reports a 2.2 % audience share in the evening and 1.7% on the whole day. It has recently been overtaken by DTT channels TMC and W9.
