New German shopping channel key to QVC growth

The new second channel in Germany for QVC has been identified as one of the mainstays of the home-shopping broadcaster’s overall growth strategy.

“QVC continue its growth course and has just exceeded the record figure of 6 million customers,” QVC CEO Ulrich Flatten said at the launch in Düsseldorf. “The new channel is part of our growth strategy through which we want to increase our multimedia reach on all important distribution platforms such as TV and internet.”

At the same time, Flatten unveiled QVC Germany’s new brand design: “QVC will be more colourful and diversified in accordance with our motto: As colourful as life, more variety than ever!”

As revealed by RapidTV News last month the new QVC Plus will offers 24 hour per day programmes complementing the main channel, covering areas such as fashion, beauty, jewellery, food and technology.

The channel can initially be received as a digital free-to-air service on Astra (19.2° East) by around 14.2 million DTH satellite households in Germany and Austria. In 2011 a live-stream on the internet will be added with cable carriage also being gradually built up.
