Spain's Northern region of Cantabria has allocated licenses for the broadcast of local DTT channels. The region has been divided into nine DTT areas and a total of nine communication companies bid for the licenses but only seven companies have been allocated one.
These are Cantabria's first DTT licenses to be assigned even though the region's analogue signal was switched off on 17 March.
The original allocation was delayed due to the fact the regional government considered the first bid closed since none of the companies who bid were considered economically stable. Indeed three of the local TV channels who took part in the first bid have now closed down. Others opted to continue analogue transmissions in spite of the analogue switch off waiting the resolution of the bid.
With the definite bid the Cantabria's population will receive five new DTT local channels.
