German ADSL provider HanseNet has for the first time disclosed its number of IPTV customers: Alice homeTV had 58,000 subscribers on June 30 2010.
The figures are part of the half-year financial report which has just been released by parent company Telefónica o2 Germany. The Spanish telecommunications group took over the company from Telecom Italia at the beginning of this year for €900m.
In total, HanseNet has more than 2.1 million DSL customers. The number of IPTV subscribers is slightly higher than the 40,000-50,000 estimated by market observers, but still considerably lower than the 1.2 million IPTV customers of market leader Deutsche Telekom.
Germany’s third-largest IPTV operator Vodafone is due to reveal details about the relaunch of its IPTV offer Vodafone TV at consumer electronics fair IFA Berlin in September. The platform, which has not been marketed since August 2009, currently has “a few thousand” customers, according to Vodafone.
