From 1 August 2010, ScandiTV will be offering viewers in the US and Canada a new IPTV service including news, films and children’s programming.
Making its base in California, ScandiTV says that its mission is providing the very best entertainment and to increase media and cultural exchanges between Scandinavia and the Americas bringing in-language television entertainment to the Scandinavian community who reside in the USA and Canada.
The OTT video service will allow viewers will be able to watch the latest releases and timeless classics from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. The service’s Nordic Package comes with four free films per month, most of which are subtitled in English and many have never been seen before in North America. There is also an array of programming for children.
When ordered, customers will receive a ScandiTV receiver box that can be connected to the Internet and television set. The customer does not need to subscribe to cable or satellite in order to receive ScandiTV but can switch those services if they have them.
The company has secured strategic partnerships with other Scandinavian media companies and will be constantly expanding its line-up of live television channels and video on demand (VOD) programming. Once established in North America, the company plans to expand its services to Latin America.
