More than a quarter of French TV sets will be internet-enabled by 2012 according to a new study from research company NPA Conseil (NPAC).
, The research body predicts that the evolution "will profoundly change the digital landscape” in France.Even though at present 5% of TV sets have the potential to connect to the internet, NPAC expects that figure to rise to 14 % in 2011 and 28 % by 2012.“By 2014, 59% of the global TV sets market will be connected,” NPAC adds. “Easy access to web-radio, web TV and on-demand TV services will change the digital landscape in which both interactive and regular TV services will share the same screen.”
The NPAC also forecasts this these trends will affect both the advertising market and that of audience measurement.
“[The new dynamics represent] both a threat and an opportunity for the development of the media business. The biggest winners with the arrival of connected TV will [be] non-linear services, like VOD and catch-up TV.”
According to NPA, e-commerce services, described as T-commerce, will also benefit from the new situation. The advent of connected TV is expected to intensify competition between platform operators and different players in sectors such as VOD.
