TVE extends HDTV broadcasts

TVE_HDSpain's national public broadcaster TVE has begun to extend its HDTV offering on DTT through its former analogue frequencies. Viewers in the Madrid region can now watch TVE HD images on the DTT channel 55, formerly used for the broadcasting of TVE's La 2 analogue signal.

This process will continue to take place in a series of Spanish cities until TVE completes HD coverage across the whole country.

Until now the national broadcaster has been making use of only one and a quarter multiplexes, meaning five channels. With the second complete mux, TVE will be able to offer up to eight channels - three more than currently. One of these channels will be used by the HDTV channel while the third one will be occupied by Cultural.es, TVE's cultural channel which is around one year old.

Barcelona and Valencia will be two of the next regions where the citizens will be able to get TVE's second mux channels.
