Anyplex signs 1st Hollywood deal

Hong Kong video-on-demand operator Anyplex has signed a content licensing deal with Sony Pictures Television (SPT) for new and library movies. SPT is the first Hollywood studio to sign a deal with Anyplex.

Anyplex offers an internet protocol-based on-demand offering. Subscribers equipped with an Anyplex-embedded integrated digital TV or set-top box will be able to access “the latest and classic Hollywood blockbusters” distributed by SPT. Titles include 2012, Julie & Julia, Michael Jackson’s This is It, An Education, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines, Men In Black II and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

“The launch of Sony Pictures Television’s content on our VOD service establishes a milestone for Anyplex, where customers could enjoy Hollywood movies instantly at home at any time.’ said Ringo Lam Wing-kwan, CEO of Anyplex.

“Sony Pictures Television is excited to be partnering with Anyplex to provide Hong Kong audiences with our new releases and library films over Anyplex’s internet-connected VOD service. The deal is another example of SPT’s continuous effort to lead in delivering the best content across all platforms,” said Angel Orengo, Senior Vice-President, Asia Pacific, SPT.

Anyplex launched in August 2009 an delivers videos to internet-connected TVs and set-top boxes. It is independent of any internet service provider or pay-TV platform and users pay no monthly fee and sign no contract, instead accessing what they want to watch for HK$2-3 per drama episode or HK$10-20 per movie.
