Yemen will restore Al Jazeera kit

The president of the Yemen has ordered that seized broadcasting equipment owned by news channels Al Jazeera and Al Arabiya be returned.

Yemen’s President Ali Abdullah Saleh has reportedly issued directives to return transmitter equipments confiscated from news teams of al-Jazeera and al-Arabia in Sanaa, Yemen’s capital, last week, an official of the Information Ministry confirmed."The president directed the Ministry of Information to return transmitter equipment to the news teams of both satellite TV channels," said an official. "The ministry informed the Sanaa-based directors of both TV channels on Tuesday," he added.

A reporter with Al Jazeera TV's Sanaa office confirmed that his colleagues were informed last week. "We were informed of the order, but the office decided not to announce anything until the authorities really return the transmitter to the office.”

Last week, Yemeni security authorities confiscated the transmitters of Al Jazeera and Al Arabia satellite TV channels over what the authorities said were non-neutral coverage on the latest clashes between government forces and separation activists in southern provinces.
