French broadband subs up 10%

French subscribers to high speed and very high speed broadband internet were 19.69m at the end of December 2009, a 10% growth over one year.

Most of the subscribers now benefit from ADSL high speed broadband internet, served at 95% by ADSL services while the remaining 5% are subcribing to a cable triple-play offer.

The number of web users who have stopped paying a fixed phone subscripion to France Télécom to favour unbundled offers reached 6.41m at the end of December vs 6m last September 2009.

Arcep points out that 290,000 households are now subscribing to very high speed broadband internet through fiber, which is a 13.7% growth over the three months between September and December 2009.
