CNBC chooses Bahrain

There’s something of a land grab going on amongst broadcasters as far as the Middle East is concerned. To date Dubai has won most of the action, but now Abu Dhabi, and even tiny Bahrain, is getting a slice of the action.

Bahrain yesterday highlighted a ‘win’ from financial channel CNBC, which will open a new editorial hub in Bahrain. The facility will be open within the next month or two, and will sit mid-point between CNBC’s London and Singapore ‘hubs’ which are all additional to its New York HQ.

The hub will coordinate and produce business and financial newsgathering from the Middle East, with a studio and production facility linked to CNBC’s global network. CNBC is in the process of recruiting an on-air presenter, reporters and production staff in the region.

The hub will contribute to CNBC’s English-language pan-regional programme Capital Connection, which will become tri-anchored live from London, Bahrain and Singapore, four days a week. CNBC’s popular half-hour monthly programme Gateway to the Middle East, will also be produced from Bahrain. Since 2007 the show has spoken with the leading voices from the region, giving viewers insight into business trends and investment opportunities.

CNBC already has a local affiliate in the shape of CNBC Arabiya, an Arabic-language service which operates out of Dubai. Middle East Business News is CNBC's affiliate for the Arabic language service.

Bahrain’s ‘win’ will help compensate for the loss of Orbit, the pay-TV operator which was based in Bahrain and has now ‘merged’ with Dubai-based Showtime.
