CNN ceases analogue DTH in Europe

cnnUS news channel CNN International will terminate its analogue DTH satellite transmission in Europe on Astra (19.2° East) on March 31. Viewers are being made aware of the move through captions shown between programmes.

CNN will continue to be available in digital on Astra, broadcasting as part of the digital package operated by parent company Turner Broadcasting System on the frequency 11.778 GHz V (SR 27,500, FEC 3/4).

The analogue feed mainly targeted DTH households in Germany. With the analogue switch-off of German public broadcasters ARD and ZDF on Astra scheduled for April 30 2012 the remaining analogue households are expected to move to digital television in the next months, enabling CNN to discontinue the analogue transmission.

A special website for CNN’s German viewers has been set up at www.cnngoesdigital.de to inform them about the channel’s transition to a digital-only DTH feed in Europe.
