Three months after the Hadopi II Law against illicit downloads was adopted in France, the number of internet pirates has risen 3%, between September and December 2009.
Daily Les Echos reported the conclusions of a study led by the research department of University Rennes 1. According to this study, less than 15% of the internauts using peer-to-peer platforms prior to the law, have definitely ceased to do it.
Besides peer-to-peer technologies, other technical devices are used today. “More than 3 million webnauts would thus break a law, that would only target 2.7 million French,” the daily adds.
But the perverse effect of the law, is that “digital pirates” are also the ones who make music or video purchases on the web. Cutting their web connection would potentially lead to a 27% decrease in the digital cultural content market.
