Colombia’s Une tops 100,000 IPTV subs

Colombian operator Une achieved 100,000 IPTV subscribers as at January, thus becoming the IPTV leader in Latin America.

According to company forecasts, Une expects that number to grow to 180,000 IPTV clients by the end of this year. Une already has about 700,000 analogue cable TV subscribers which it is migrating to its DVB-C system, and some are now watching on IPTV hybrid boxes.

The figure was informally disclosed to NexTVLatam by Une executives at Andinalink, in the city of Cartagena. Some 20,000 subscribers out of the total base are located in the capital city of Bogotá and the rest are in Medellín, where Une is headquartered. Une uses Orca middleware and Verimatrix' CAS.

Une had closed 2008 with 30,000 IPTV subscribers and had anticipated reaching 150,000 by the end of last year, but the economic crisis that affected Colombia reduced those targets.

Une says its IPTV subscribers are growing, and the company wants to offer its cable subscribers the same interactive services, and the company is looking to install hybrid STBs with IPTV for VOD and other applications. At present, Une renders VOD services provided by aggregator DLA, and is trying to add Warner Bros to its portfolio.
