TIMM, the German television channel for gay men, is considering turning itself into a pay-TV service. On its website, the Berlin-based broadcaster has launched a survey to find out whether its target group would be prepared to pay for the channel.
“Would you continue to remain onboard if Germany’s first and only channel for gay men became a pay-TV service?”, TIMM asks its viewers.
Operating company Deutsche Fernsehwerke (DFW) filed for insolvency in January at the district court of Berlin-Charlottenburg, saying that the need for additional funds to finance further development caused the situation. Transmissions are continuing for the time being.
TIMM offers a general interest schedule with news, entertainment formats, series and movies, broadcasting via cable, satellite, IPTV and internet. The free-to-air channel, which launched on November 1 2008, aimed to finance through advertisements and sponsorship.
