Veo TV wants in on merger

Spanish media group Unidad Editorial's digital TV channel Veo TV is keen not to be excluded from the mergers of the country's main broadcasters.

Following the Mediaset/Telecinco pre-agreement with Prisa/Sogecable to buy into Cuatro and have an important stake in Sogecable's satellite pay-TV operator Digital+, Veo TV wants to participate in the other merger in sight – that between Grupo Planeta's Antena 3 and Mediapro's laSexta.

Unidad Editorial's management have declared the same operation could be done by the other big editorial group Vocento, with its digital national TV channel Net TV in the case of the future merger of Telecinco with Cuatro.

Veo TV has similarities with Antena 3 on its editorial line, contacts and common entrepreneurial interests on pay-DTT. Antena 3 and laSexta have both shown interest in the exploitation of a pay-DTT platform and both broadcasters already have content that they could exploit under this model.

One option could be for Veo TV to offer a part of its mux to give more capacity for a future pay-DTT operator. Such a move would allow it to continue exploiting both digital channels Veo7 and Sony TV while offering an interest value for the future holding company, Antena 3-laSexta.
