It may be fighting a well-loved publicly funded broadcaster, as well as the combined might of the prime minister and his powerful commercial TV stations, but News Corp's Sky Italia operation is pressing all the right buttons, and sees only growth ahead.
Speaking to Milan's Corriere della Sera newspaper, Sky Italia boss Tom Mockridge, admits that relations between Sky and Silvio Berlusconi are not the best, but Mockridge refuses to declare any sort of war against the prime minister's office, or of Piersilvio Berlusconi who runs the Mediaset broadcasting empire.
"In reality, I continue to believe that you are dealing with only competition between two companies, of healthy competition on content, on offers, on business models," Mockridge told the newspaper.
Mockridge said the Italian market had an enormous space in which to grow, saying that pay-TV in the US was enjoyed by 93% of US families, 60% in the UK and just 25% in Italy.
