PrimaCom and KDG prepare for battle

A serious dispute has erupted between German cable operators PrimaCom and Kabel Deutschland (KDG) over wholesale fees charged by KDG for supplying television signals to other network operators, German newspaper Die Welt reports.

PrimaCom considers the prices charged to be too high and has lodged a misuse complaint with federal regulatory authority Bundesnetzagentur, where a decision is expected to be made by 28 December. "The proceedings are not only important to us, but carry significant consequences for almost all German cable operators with end-customer relations", said PrimaCom head Michael Buhl.

For many smaller cable operators and housing associations KDG acts as the pre-supplier of their television offer. As there aren't alternative sources in most regions, companies are dependant on delivery by KDG.
