Private networks against phone TV tax

The French Association of private channels (ACP) has firmly positioned itself against the adoption by France of any new TV tax.

A call by France's upper house (Senate) for a taxation amendment that would create a new "arbitrary" tax for TV broadcasters on revenues from phone calls made to phone-in shows, Call TV and game shows.

The ACP recalls that channels are already largely contributing to the financing of public policies like PSB ad ban reform in a period when they're experiencing a substantial decrease in net advertising revenues.

Private channels also point out that such an initiative would affect their overall revenues, and would lead to a decrease in their contribution into fresh TV content creation and feature film production.

The Senate amendment plans to tax revenues from phone TV to a 9.5% level.
