France: DTT channels to go HD by 2015

France’s 18 digital-terrestrial TV channels should be broadcast in HD by 2015, Alain Méart, a member of regulatory body CSA said last week at research company NPA’s conference on DTT. Five networks - TF1, M6, France 2, Arte and Canal+ - are currently offering HD programming.

In a recent study, NPA showed that more programmes are now broadcast in high-definition, rising from 259 in 2007 to 946 in September 2009. According to the company, 78% of French households should be HD-equipped in 2012, vs 45% at the end of 2009. In 2004, no household had any HD TV set.
