Televisa increases laSexta investment

Mexico’s main media group Televisa is very interested in the Spanish market. The company has increased its investment in national private channel Mediapro-Imagina’s laSexta by €35.6 million this year.

Televisa has a stake of 40% in laSexta. The company invested €19.7 million in laSexta in Q2 this year and in Q3 another €3.9 million. These figures are added to €550 million of investments José Miguel Contreras, laSexta’s CEO, highlighted last March as investments made in the channel.

LaSexta’s capital has grown since its initial investments some €500 million, which the group planned in 2006 until 2010. But the reality is that the losses of the companies in which Televisa participates grew 68.9% in Q1 this year with regard to 2008, with losses growing from US$185.3 million in 2008 to US$312.9 million in 2009. In Q2 the growth was 28.7%, passing from US$104.6 million in 2008 to US$135.7 million in 2009. In Q3 this year the participation in the losses of Televisa’s affiliates went down US$4.9 million, or 3.3%, from US$146.9 million in 2008 to US$142 million.
