Vietnam gets IPTV service

Ahead of some of its wealthier neighbours, Vietnam has taken the leap into IPTV, with incumbent telco the Vietnam Post and Telecommunications Group (VNPT) officially launching its MyTV service at the start of the week.

MyTV has now launched in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City, with VNPT promising to extend the service nationwide from next month. Soft launches started in June. The service includes linear channels as well as on-demand programming.

As per an IBC press release, content security compay Verimatrix has deployed its VCAS for IPTV content security solution for ZTE’s ZXBIV IPTV Eyewill platform. VNPT also plans to implement Verimatrix's VideoMark, user-specific forensic watermarking technology, as an additional layer of content security. The presence of VideoMark enables VNPT to offer more premium channels and provides flexibility to protect content beyond the set-top box environment.

VNPT has some 62 million telephone subscribers but around 50 million of these are mobile subscriptions, with no fixed line.
