Hadopi 2 adopted

French Deputies voted on Tuesday in favour of law project Hadopi 2 aimed at curbing illegal downloads by cutting repeat offenders’ internet connections. But the measure remains contentious - the law passed by 285 votes to 225.

This additional text comes to complete previous voted law Hadopi 1 against illegal downloads but whose part about penalties was censured by the French Conseil Constitutionnel last June. Like Hadopi 1, Hadopi 2 introduces the possibility to cut web susbcription to webnauts known for practicing illicit downloads. What is new is that this cut will be decided upon by a specific court and not by an administrative authority as previously required by French government.

Hadopi 2 still must be definitely adopted by both Senate and Assembly in a joint commission.

Repeating their opposition to penalties, left-wing deputies announced they will cease again the Conseil Constitutionnel.
