Telenor’s results, up but down

Norwegian telephone and broadcast giant Telenor issued Dec 31 numbers on Feb 11. They showed that its DTH pay-TV business Canal Digital had seen a 13% increase in revenues despite losing 18,000 DTH subscribers year-on-year (from 1.13m to 1.11m).

The extra revenues came from add-on services and hardware sales, although Telenor’s Conax encryption division also had its “strongest quarter yet”.

Overall revenues were up from NOK1.898bn to NOK2.160bn (y-o-y). However, this did not flow through to the bottom line where operating profits fell back from NOK217m to NOK133m. As to Canal Digital Group’s operating segments, we have already noted the slight reduction in DTH numbers, but cable TV connections grew, from 705,000 to 746,000 (y-o-y).
