batman.jpgYou couldn’t make this up. There’s a town in southeastern Turkey called Batman, and the mayor of the town has started a legal action against producer Christopher Nolan and Warner Bros for using the name of the town “without permission”.

Huseyin Kalkan, mayor of Batman, is accusing the producers and distributors of The Dark Knight of “using the name of our city without informing us”.

Batman first appeared as a comic book in 1939, then as a TV series in 1966. The first movie feature was released in 1989.

The mayor is reportedly arguing that his town’s residents are suffering a high number of unsolved murders and a high female suicide rate. Warners say they have yet to see any paperwork connected with the alleged claims.

A Blu-ray release of The Dark Knight is scheduled for Dec 9 in the USA.
