Swiss telco Swisscom has doubled subscriptions to the IPTV platform Bluewin TV distributed on its ADSL broadband networks within the past 12 months.
At June 30 2008 the company had 80,000 customers for the bouquet. On
June 30 2007 the figure was 40,000. At the same time, the average
one-off installation fee per new customer including equipment and
hardware sank to under SFr700 (€430), mainly through the introduction
of do-it-yourself installations for which two-thirds of customers
currently opt. The high installation costs, which were initially around
SFr1,400 per customer, weighed heavily on Swisscom’s financial results
last year. The company hopes Bluewin TV will have reached breakeven by
the end of 2009.
The offer, launched on November 1 2006, comprises more than 120
television and 80 radio stations, including HDTV channels, over 500
films available on demand, live sports coverage and 30 channels offered
by pay-TV operator Teleclub.
