Turner’s Esporte Interativo has opened a new interactive window for fans, enabling several bots to engage in the social TV conversation about Real Madrid and FC Barcelona.

camp nouProduced by Harlio, a Brazilian developer of chatbot technology, Esporte Interativo’s bot interacts with sports fans through Facebook, sharing information about the two La Liga teams, posting short videos and interviews and even entering the live social TV conversation during the games.

“It’s an important service for fans, who are already used to interacting on Esporte Interativo’s social media. Over 13 million fans on Facebook will have the opportunity to get active content about two European teams which draw great attention among Brazilians,” said Mauricio Portela, VP for sports, Turner.

The company expects to reach around one million fans with the chatbot, building a new tool to increase engagement beyond linear TV programming.

“It’s the first national virtual assistant. We currently have great knowledge about this disruptive technology,” added Ricardo Grobel, one of Harlio’s partners.

Online and social TV platforms are becoming a key tool for TV networks to connected with the audience, especially around live sports events, which usually attract a large audience.
