The Multi Screen Media-owned sports channel Sony Six has won the exclusive broadcast rights for the Australian Open tennis championship from 2015 to 2019.

While this is the first Grand Slam tennis event Sony Six has acquired, the channel has broadcast AFP tennis, along with holding rights to Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket, UEFA Euro 2016 football finals, Qualifiers for UEFA Euro 2016 and the European qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup 2018. In addition, it airs NBA action, the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) and TNA.

"This acquisition signifies another endeavour by Sony Six into bringing diverse sports offerings for its viewers. The Australian Open is seen as the paramount opener to the Grand Slam competitions and we are proud to have this prestigious event in our bouquet of international sports content," said Prasana Krishnan, EVP and business head, Sony Six.

Craig Tiley, CEO, Tennis Australia and director of the Australian Open, added: "MSM presented a compelling proposition and demonstrated a commitment to promote the event and the sport of tennis in India which continues to cement our position as the Grand Slam of the Asian-Pacific."
