Ultra HDTV is the future for Spanish TV; this is the commitment of some of the biggest audiovisual companies of the country, which yesterday participated in broadcasting the first Ultra HDTV 4K audiovisual production in Spain.

Canal+, Telefónica, SES, Sony, NEWTEC, OVIDE, Promovisa, Sapect and Trigital came together to show the future of TV. According to these companies, 88 million households in the world will have Ultra HDTV by 2020.

Canal+ expects to be the first channel to offer a stable schedule in 4K quality in the next two to three years. Sogecable's channel was also the first to offer HD programming in 2008.

The companies all highlighted the advantages of this new system. The possibility of watching the TV from really close up without losing quality, better colours and more pixels are the main features of the new system, which supports four times more digital information than normal HD.

The next leg of the 4K race will depend upon sporting events, as this genre has historically been involved in TV's expansion. Brazil's World Cup next year and the Olympics in 2016 are supposed to be the first events that will be broadcast completely in Ultra HDTV.
