Ukrainian VOD service Megogo.net has announced its user numbers for 2012.
In December 2012 Megogo.net had more than 13 million unique users compared with its target for the month of two million. By January 2013 its monthly audience had grown to 17.5 million viewers, and in February 2013 it was 20 million. For the whole of 2012 Megogo.net had more than 75 million unique users.
Vladimir Borovik, CEO of Megogo.net, said increased user numbers were down to several reasons, including the addition of popular cartoons from Soyuzmultfilm studio, the London Olympics, and catch-up of popular TV shows.
"This year we will show even more hits," Borovik added. "For example, we have contracts with the BBC and Euronews, we are in negotiations with other great studios, and we have started broadcasting basketball Super League matches.
"Today Megogo.net has more than 200 contracts with owners and the site has 20,000 hours of video, making it one of the biggest in the countries of CIS and the Baltic states, and second in Russia."
During 2012 Megogo.net opened regional offices in Russia, the Baltic countries, Central Asia, Belarus and the Caucasus. It also opened access to its content for people around the world.
The company says that one of its significant advances in 2012 was going multi-platform. It released apps for iPads and iPhones, and Android devices, plus a VOD service app for smart TVs from LG, Sony, Samsung, Panasonic and Philips.
