International financial investor Bridgepoint has taken over Swiss sports rights agency Infront.

The purchase price was not revealed, but is rumoured to amount to around €550 million.

The sellers are Jacobs Holding, Junkermann group and Martin Steinmeyer who used to own 100% of the shares. The anti-trust authorities still have to approve the deal.

Infront markets the media rights on behalf of more than 120 sports organisations including football, winter and summer sports. In 2010, the company reached a turnover of more than €600 million.

Bridgepoint says that it wants to turn Infront into the global number 1 among the sports rights marketing companies. The rights dealer, which belongs to the top 3 along with Sportfive, would take the number 1 spot from US-based competitor IMG.
