Pan-European sports broadcaster Eurosport will launch its HDTV channel Eurosport HD on German pay-TV platform Sky on 4 July.

Subscribers to the Premiere successor will be able to view the Tour de France, World Swimming Championships, World Championships in Athletics and US tennis tournament the US Open in high definition. Additionally, the FIA World Touring Car Championships, Superbike World Championships and other sports such as boxing and snooker will be screened.

The channel can be received along with Sky Sport HD by subscribing to the sports or soccer Bundesliga premium packages if the HDTV option is taken. With Eurosport HD, Sky's HDTV offer now comprises seven channels.

With the move, Eurosport HD will be available for the first time in Germany and Austria. The channel, which was launched on 25 May 2008, already reaches a total of 2.5 million TV households in Europe, including the UK, France, Italy and Scandinavia.
